Taiwanese actress Audrey Lin, 12, made history last Saturday (Nov 25) when she became the youngest actress to win Best Actress at the Golden Horse Awards.
She took home the award for her role as a schoolgirl coping with her mother’s extramarital affair with her teacher in Trouble Girl.
Following her win, Audrey’s private life has been thrust into the spotlight and turns out, she comes from quite the influential family.
Her maternal grandparents are prominent figures in Taiwan.
Grandpa Wang Benrong, 73, is a renowned pediatric neurologist, and the CEO of Tzu Chi Education. He also served as the president of Tzu Chi University.
Grandma Li Liuxiu ,71, is the daughter of Lee Tsung Hsu, founder of Taiwan’s Yakult and now-defunct instant noodle brand Sun Lih Men. She also teaches tea ceremony classes at Tzu Chi.
Born in Australia, Audrey moved to Taiwan when she was one and attended the Taiwan European School.
She began acting in theatre at the age of seven and in 2021, she gained recognition for her role in her debut film American Girl, for which she was nominated for Best New Talent at the Taipei Film Awards the following year.
Director Ang Lee, who served as the president of the jury for this year’s Golden Horse Awards, has called Audrey a “genius”.
However, he hopes she would “shoot fewer movies” and put her studies first.
“I hope [you get a] good education, have healthy growth and development. Rejoice in [your win] for just three days. Take things slowly, focus on strengthening language skills. Acting is a lifelong endeavor,” was his advice to her.
