Police arrest tourist for assaulting, threatening a foreigner in Kuala Lumpur
KUALA LUMPUR: A European tourist has been arrested for assaulting a foreign woman at a cafe here.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the incident occurred at 1.30pm on Sunday (Nov 26).
“The complainant, a 30-year-old accountant from Jordan, was buying a drink at a cafe along Jalan Cendana when she was approached by a man she didn’t know.
“The man suddenly punched the complainant in the stomach and threatened to hurt her further,” he said when contacted on Thursday.
He said the woman lodged a police report on the day of the incident.
“We opened investigations for criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.
“The suspect was identified as a 48-year-old European tourist,” he said, adding that the suspect was arrested on the same day.
Comm Noor Dellhan said the suspect was remanded for four days and is expected to be charged in court on Friday (Dec 1).
A message and pictures of the alleged suspect were circulated on WhatsApp, warning hoteliers about an unruly tourist.
The message alleged that the man was abusive and an alcoholic.
ACP Noor Dellhan advised the public to always abide by the law.
“We will not hesitate to take stern action against anyone who is caught intentionally breaking the law,” he said.
