Unemployed man pleads not guilty to reckless driving causing death in Seremban
SEREMBAN: An unemployed man has claimed trial in the Magistrate’s Court here to a charge of reckless driving that caused the death of an 18-year-old motorcyclist.
R. Puvarasan, 28, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli.
He is charged with dangerous and reckless driving resulting in the death of Che Wan Muhammad Aqif Mustaqim Che Faizal.
The alleged offence occurred at about 6.35am on August 6 along Jalan Temiang.
The victim, the son of a policeman, was on his way to work at a petrol station.
Puvarasan is charged under Section 41(a) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of five to ten years, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and a minimum five-year driving ban upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor P. Rubini offered bail at RM20,000 pending the next mention.
Defence counsel P.S. Tamil Arsoo pleaded for a lower amount, noting that his client is unemployed and his mother, who attended court to bail him, is a single parent.
Magistrate Nurul Saqinah set bail at RM5,000 with one surety and fixed November 6 for the next mention.
