UM students come on stage dancing at graduation as part of faculty tradition
KUALA LUMPUR: Breaking out joget-like moves as they received their scrolls, a batch of graduating Universiti Malaya (UM) students garnered all the buzz.
The Faculty of Creative Arts graduates put their best foot forward and stole the show as their names were called during their recent convocation ceremony.
A viral TikTok video shows the graduates busting a move before being handed their scrolls, each showing off their own style.
Some played it cool with a step or two, while others showed off snappy footwork lasting a few seconds longer.
The graduates showcased myriad dance moves, including traditional and ballet-esque steps.
The video was posted by @heshbie, who added background music.
An online portal reported that this was during UM’s 63rd convocation ceremony.
It shared that the Faculty of Creative Arts is the only faculty at the university allowed to perform during their convocation ceremony.
“This mini dance that we perform before accepting the scroll was actually a tradition set by our seniors long ago. Since then, it’s been passed down to the juniors”, said the graduate to the portal.
Many social media users chimed in to share their take on the video, with some saying that an accounts graduate would need to bring along a calculator while another said a culinary arts graduate should bring along a cheesecake.
Others were vocal in their admiration for the Creative Arts students, sharing how wonderful it was to watch.
