Chinese Actor Dylan Wang Wore Cornrows To Louis Vuitton Fashion Show & Got Called Out For Cultural Appropriation

The actor’s team have explained their styling choice, saying that they were paying homage to LV creative director Pharrell Williams’ African-American heritage.

Chinese star Dylan Wang recently attended a Louis Vuitton fashion show in Hong Kong as one of the luxury brand’s ambassadors.

However, the 24-year-old actor, who was seen sporting cornrows at the event, has been accused of cultural appropriation.

It didn’t take long for pictures of Dylan to circulate online, with many questioning his styling team’s choice to do up his hair in a style that holds meaning in black culture.

Despite receiving a lot of criticism about his look that night, Dylan’s team doubled down on their styling choice, claiming that their intent was to pay homage to LV creative director Pharrell Williams’ African-American heritage.

There’s now talk that Dylan has also offended the Louis Vuitton team with his hairstyle. He was the only star who was not featured on LV’s social media pages following the fashion show.

“Did Dylan get cut out?” asked one of his fans on LV’s recent Instagram post.

The comment was met with plenty of responses from other netizens, who explained that by wearing cornrows, Dylan was being disrespectful to black culture.

They also echoed the sentiment that “his styling team should have known better”.
