Firemen, cops safely bring down man from roof of Melaka building

MELAKA: Firemen assisted Melaka police in the rescue a 31-year-old man from the rooftop of a building in Taman Pertam Jaya here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said they were still trying to ascertain why the man climbed to the roof of the one-storey commercial unit at about 1pm on Sunday (Dec 10).

“The man, who is from Myanmar, had difficulty speaking local languages,” he said.

ACP Christopher Patit said men from the Bandar Hilir police station responded to a call from the public after the man was spotted on the roof.

“My men tried to persuade the man (to come down) but he started tossing objects at them and continued to stand precariously on the rooftop,’ he said.

ACP Christopher Patit said his men then called the Padang Temu Fire and Rescue Department for assistance.

He said police later managed to overpower the man when he suddenly slipped.

ACP Christopher Patit said the man sustained minor injuries during the confrontation.

He added police are investigating the case under Section 453 of the Penal Code for house trespass.
