Woman dies in Muar bike-lorry accident, brother seriously injured

MUAR: A 37-year-old woman has been killed while her younger brother suffered serious injuries after the motorcycle they were on collided with a lorry on Jalan Bukit Mor, Parit Jawa, here.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the incident occurred at 12.20pm on Sunday (Dec 10) when the victims were heading towards Parit Jawa from Ayer Manis.

“Investigations revealed that the lorry was carrying oil palm fruit, driven by a 31-year-old man from the opposite direction.

“The rider, identified as Norlyana Sharif, lost control of her motorcycle and crashed into the oncoming lorry.

“The deceased suffered a fatal head injury while the pillion rider, identified as Mohd Khairul Amri Sharif, 27, broke both legs and injured both arms,” he said in a statement.

ACP Raiz added that the rider was later pronounced dead at the location by a medical team, while her brother was taken to Hospital Muar.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Muar Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Fettry Mahat said that nine firemen were deployed to the scene to carry out the rescue operation.
