HK Actress Kathy Chow Dies Suddenly At 57; Said To Have Been Found Unconscious By Colleague In Her Beijing Home

Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow has died at the age of 57.

A post shared by Kathy’s studio on Weibo last night (Dec 12) revealed that the actress had died the night before after the “unsuccessful treatment” of her illness.

“May there be no pain in heaven and may we meet again in our next lives!” read part of the statement.

It also included a message from Kathy’s mum.

“Dear Kathy, I hope you’ll continue being happy in the other world. Your family is proud of you,” she wrote.

Earlier today, a post titled “Patient is unconscious. Heart has stopped for one hour” claimed to have Kathy’s digital medical records. It showed that the actress was sent to the Beijing Hosp. of TCM Shunyi Branch before she passed.

According to the source, Kathy, who lived alone, was found lying unconscious in her Beijing home by her colleague at around 10am on Dec 11.

The colleague then rushed Kathy to the hospital and informed the doctors that the actress had been coughing and was breathless for the past week.

Her breathlessness also worsened the night before.

However, reports now claim that Kathy had died when she arrived at the hospital at 11am that day, and that her body was already cold and stiff with visible livor mortis.

Kathy’s pupils were also dilated and showed no response to light. Her heartbeat and breathing had also stopped.

There are now rumours that the actress had suffered from systemic lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own tissues.

Though Kathy once denied these speculations, it was alleged that her medical records clearly state that she suffered from systemic lupus erythematosus as well as high blood pressure.

Kathy, who was known for her roles in TVB dramas in the ’80s and ’90s, shot to fame after playing Zhou Zhiruo in TVB’s 1994 wuxia drama The Heaven Sword And Dragon Sabre.

After close to three decades, Kathy is still hailed as the “prettiest Zhou Zhiruo”. Other actresses who have played the same role, include Gigi Lai and Charmaine Sheh.

Just two days before her death, Kathy also posted a series of pictures of the roles she played. “Which drama did you know me from?” she asked her followers.

It turned out to be her last social media update.
