Funeral Director Shares Video Of A Wake For Kathy Chow; Turns Out To Be Fake

Over the past few days, we’ve seen many tributes to late Hong Kong actress Kathy Chow, who suddenly passed away earlier this week (Dec 11) at the age of 57.

While details of Kathy’s funeral hasn’t been disclosed, on Wednesday (Dec 13), a lady, who claimed to be a funeral director, took to Weibo to share a video of what looked like the late actress’ wake.

In the clip, a framed photo of Kathy was seen placed on a table in front of a coffin.

The area was also decorated with flowers that formed a heart-shape and there was also a screen displaying Kathy’s iconic roles.

Netizens were quick to realise that that was not Kathy’s actual wake as the funeral director had previously showed pictures of another funeral with the same layout and coffin.

They also condemned the woman for disrespecting the deceased and using the actress’ death for clout.

In response, the funeral director shared a new post on her Weibo to explain herself.

“Hi everyone, I’d like to clarify that this funeral is not Big Sister Kathy’s,” she said in her post.

She went on to say that she’s just a fan, and had made the video because she was “too upset” and “had no words to describe” how she felt.

“Sorry for causing a misunderstanding. Please forgive me! Everyone’s just pays tribute in different ways,” she pleaded.

However, her apology did not placate netizens, and the woman has since switched her account to private (Dec 14).

Clips of Kathy’s past roles also played in the mourning hall. Here’s a scene of Kathy as Zhou Zhiruo in the 1994 adaptation of wuxia drama The Heaven Sword And Dragon Sabre.
