Johor Immigration arrests 47 for misuse of RTK 2.0 slips

JOHOR BARU: Immigration officers have detained 47 foreigners at a factory in Kluang for working without proper employment permits.

Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir (pic) said 23 were from India, 21 were from Bangladesh, two were from Sri Lanka, and one was from Pakistan.

They were detained in a special operation at 10.30am on Thursday (Dec 14), he added.

“A total of 135 foreigners were screened during the raid,” he said on Friday (Dec 15).

Baharuddin added that the department was acting on a tip-off that the factory had engaged foreign workers without the proper documents.

The detainees, aged 22 to 56, were taken in during a special operation codenamed Ops Mahir, which targeted foreigners who used workforce recalibration (RTK) 2.0 slips to work illegally in Malaysia.

Baharuddin added that they were taken in for various offences, including lacking proper travel documents, overstaying, misuse of social visit passes, and contravening the terms of their visit passes.

He advised all employers to register their undocumented workers under RTK 2.0 before it expires on Dec 31.
