Malaysia emerges as overall champion at Global Esports Games with one gold and two silver medals
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has emerged as the overall champion in the 3rd Global Esports Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia recently, finishing on top of the table with one gold medal and two silver.
The country took home a gold medal in the Dota 2 Women’s Category after defeating Peru 2-0 in the finals on Dec 16.
The team consists of Grills Gaming players Stephanie “Auroraa” Lim, Bette “Istarx” Chia, Melissa “Lynnie” Lim, Tiffany “Hishiko” Tsuyuri, Vanessa “Butterly” Hii and Adeline “Velnaoh” Foki.
In a statement on Facebook, the team attributed their success to coach Chan Litt Binn, sports psychologist service Mind Gap and friends.
“For a part-time, non-sponsored, zero-budget team to have gotten this far, many many kind souls have played a part in helping us get here today. We are full of gratitude, and glad we did not disappoint everyone!” the team said in a post on Dec 17.
In the Dota 2 open category, team Malaysia took home a silver medal after the finals match with Kazakhstan.
The team consisted of Chan “Lonely Chucky” Kok Khin, Kam “Moon” Boon Seng, Nicholas “Zeal” Lim, Ng “YamateH” Wei Phoong and Pang “Ponyo Sze Xuan.
In the Street Fighter 6 category, Malaysia’s Ban “IamChuan” Chuan Quah earned a silver medal.
The Malaysian contingent for the Global Esports Games was assembled by the Malaysian Esports Governance Association (Mega). The event was held from Dec 12 to 16 featuring over 900 athletes from 100 nations.
The Global Esports Games is the flagship event by the Global Esports Federation.
