Lost hikers found safe near Johor’s Sungai Mas waterfall

JOHOR BARU: Three men were found safe after getting lost for over eight hours while trekking near the Sungai Mas waterfall at Tasik Biru in Kangkar Pulai.

Skudai fire and rescue station operations commander Fairuz Helmi Mohd Ali said they received a distress call through MERS 999 at 3.54pm on Monday (Dec 18).

“A total of 18 firemen in two fire engines, one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle and one utility vehicle from the Skudai and Kulai fire stations were deployed to the scene.

“The operation was also assisted by six trekkers from Persatuan Malim Gunung and six police personnel,” he said on Tuesday (Dec 19).

Fairuz Helmi added the police then instructed the victims – locals between the ages of 35 and 27 – to move down from the hill through the track they used to climb up.

“The search and rescue team was divided into three groups consisting of firemen, volunteers and police personnel.

“We found them in a state of exhaustion at around 12.30am Tuesday in a hillside area.

“They were taken out safely and handed over to police for further action,” he said, adding that the operation ended at around 2.30am.
