Menara Ilham: Designed by the world’s highest-paid architect

PETALING JAYA: Located within Kuala Lumpur’s financial hub, Menara Ilham – seized recently by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission – was designed by a world-renowned architecture firm.

The 274m-tall tower, owned by Tun Daim Zainuddin’s family, is one of the tallest buildings in the country.

It was designed by Foster + Partners by Norman Foster, who is also reportedly the highest paid architect in the world with a net worth of US$240mil (RM1.1bil).

Construction of the iconic landmark began in 2010 and it was completed in 2015, with an estimated cost of US$580mil (RM2.1bil) based on the currency exchange rate then.

The 60-storey tower is located along Jalan Binjai, in the prime commercial and high-rise residential property area around Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

Menara Ilham includes office suites, a public art gallery, luxury serviced apartments, a four-star hotel, and restaurants.

According to Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) records, it is owned by Ilham Tower Sdn Bhd, of which Ilham Baru Sdn Bhd is the majority shareholder.

Ilham Baru owns 93.8% or 741,395,893 shares in Ilham Tower, which is involved in property investments, the hotel industry, maintenance and cleaning services, as well as food and beverage businesses.

The company was incorporated on Nov 20, 2008 and was formerly known as IB Tower Sdn Bhd.
