‘Severe continuous’ rain till Sunday expected in Johor, Pahang

PETALING JAYA: Several parts of Johor and Pahang are set to experience “severe continuous” rain from today till Sunday, according to the meteorological department (MetMalaysia).

This comes just as over 1,000 people in Johor have been evacuated due to floods caused by persistent heavy rain since last night.

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the continuous rain will involve Pekan and Rompin in Pahang, as well as Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor.

The department also warned of “alert level” continuous rain during the same period in Kuantan, Batu Pahat and Pontian, according to Bernama.

Earlier, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) said the flood situation in Johor had worsened, with the number of people forced to evacuate their homes tripling to more than a thousand as of 8pm tonight.

Nadma said 1,024 flood victims in Johor had been moved to 13 relief centres, compared with only 330 people evacuated as of 2pm.
