Dubai Move: 75 police reports lodged to date, says CID chief

SHAH ALAM: Seventy-five police reports have been lodged over the “Dubai Move” to date.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said 31 reports were lodged by politicians and the remainder by the public.

“We are investigating the case under Section 124C of the Penal Code for attempting to commit activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy,” he told reporters on Wednesday (Jan 10).

He said police were also investigating the matter for misuse of network facilities and for publishing or circulating any statement, rumour or report with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public or induce the public to commit an offence against the state or public tranquillity.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily also said his department was examining the statement of blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamarudin in a YouTube video that claims PAS MPs will be arrested under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.

“As of noon today, we have yet to receive any report on this issue.

“Although there is no report, we are studying which Section to investigate the matter under,” he said, adding that the statement has elements that cause public anxiety.

He said the video also allegedly calls for people to take to the streets.

“We are looking to see if there is any dual criminality element related to it.

“We will get advice from the Attorney General’s Chambers on that,” he added.

Last month, Community Communications Department deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that the “Dubai Move” took place when some Opposition and government leaders were on holiday in the United Arab Emirates.

Several prominent Perikatan Nasional leaders have since denied their involvement in the purported plot.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, however, claimed that the Opposition had obtained enough statutory declarations to form a new government.
