Original ‘Ke Mu San’ Dance & Creator Revealed And People Are Realising How Complex It Really Is

No wonder people only post the 30-second version of the viral dance.

You might think the viral ‘Ke Mu San’ dance originated from business-savvy Chinese hotpot chain Haidilao.

But apparently, the dance moves and catchy tune had humbler beginnings.

According to reports, the wacky moves were invented by Guangxi native Zhu Kaihong. He had performed it for his friend’s wedding after he found the initial set to be incredibly boring.

However, the dance didn’t have a name or gain prominence until a netizen from the same region performed it excitedly on Douyin after passing his Subject 3 [translation: Ke Mu San] driving test. He had failed the test over 10 times, hence his delight.

“Let’s call it ‘Ke Mu San’!” when others asked him for the name of the dance.

The original version looks more difficult than the version we see our Haidilao waiters doing.

Netizens also managed to uncover a video performed by Kaihong himself who can be seen delivering the original choreography on stage.

Dressed in a black outfit and white sneakers, Kaihong’s OG version includes the moonwalk, the robot, and miming, and it drew cheers and gasps from the crowd.

After watching the video, many commented that the dance looked a lot more difficult, and that they now know why most people can’t last longer than 30 seconds.

“No wonder most people only post 30-second clips!” wrote one netizen.

Complexity aside, it seems to have also inspired others. “It is such a powerful dance! I should go to some talent show to perform it!” said one such netizen.

Wait… Is no one worried about fracturing their bones?
