Man arrested for suspected arson of Beruas MP’s house to be released on bail

IPOH: The man who was arrested on suspicion of committing arson at Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham’s house in Ayer Tawar will be released on police bail.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said they had received the instruction to release the man from the state Public Prosecutor.

ACP Mohamed Nordin said the instruction was given after the investigation papers had been referred to the Public Prosecutor on Tuesday (Jan 16).

“The man is to be released with police bail and can also become a witness to the investigation if needed,” he said in a statement.

“The police urge those with information on the arson to come forward or contact investigating officer Asst Supt Mohd Azalan Ab Karim at 019-392 7837 to facilitate investigation,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, it was reported that the police had obtained an order to remand the man until Wednesday (Jan 17).

The man, in his 30s, was arrested in Shah Alam on Friday (Jan 12) to assist investigation under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire.

He had been initially remanded until Tuesday to assist in the investigation.

In the early hours of Jan 10, a Molotov cocktail was believed to have been thrown onto the porch of Ngeh’s house, resulting in a fire that damaged three cars.
