Water tariff adjustment will allow Air Kelantan to repair leaky pipes

KOTA BHARU: Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB) will use the revenue obtained from the water tariff adjustment to solve issues regarding leaking pipes and improve the quality of water supply services to consumers in the state.

AKSB acting general manager Izani Ismail said that with the average increase of 23 sen per cubic metre following the water tariff adjustment that will take effect on Feb 1, work to repair leaking pipes will be expedited.

“With strong financial resources, repairs of leaking, rusty pipes or low water pressure will be done faster,” he told reporters after the 2023 AKSB-Media Appreciation ceremony on Sunday (Jan 21) night.

Izani said the loss rate of non-revenue water (NRW) in Kelantan was still high at 50% and this problem could be reduced if the leaking pipes are repaired immediately.

“This week, we will select suitable contractors for the implementation of projects to repair, change and modify existing water pipes to residences in phases and according to current needs

According to Izani, the AKSB will also upgrade old water treatment plants (LRAs) in the state to overcome incidents of murky water.

He said there are 42 existing LRAs in the state and they will add five more LRAs in Merbau Chondong, Tok Bali, Bukit Chupak (Gua Musang), Chicha 2 and Tanjong Mas to meet the needs of consumers in the areas. – Bernama
