Couple sells tea at 50sen a cup to repay kindness of donors when daughter had leukaemia

PORT DICKSON: A couple has been selling “teh o” for just 50sen a cup not because they want to make a profit but as a way to repay the good deeds of donors who helped them until their daughter recovered from leukaemia.

Yusnira Mukhtar, 42, said that she and her 44-year-old husband Rohaizad Abdul Khalid felt that the stall, aptly named Warung Teh ‘O’ 50 Sen, in Jalan Pantai, Kampung Bagan Pinang near here and which opened 10 years ago, was the best way to repay the good deeds of their customers and friends who had helped them so much when they faced difficulties.

“We sell iced ‘teh o’ or hot ‘teh o’ at 50sen a cup because we want to give back to charity and repay the good deeds of donors who extended their help when our second child, Puteri Iris Sofea had leukaemia when she was just two years old.

“We can’t find everyone who has helped us all this while. My husband and I are very grateful, so I think this is the best way to repay the good deeds of our customers,” she said when met recently.

Yusnira said although she and her husband had to quit their jobs to care for their daughter, she and her family will always be thankful that Puteri Iris Sofea, who is almost 14 now, is healthy again, courtesy of the assistance provided by their colleagues, who donated almost RM20,000.

The stall, she said, also sells various types of drinks, including coconut shakes and Malay dishes like asam pedas and salai at reasonable prices, adding that business has been brisk, especially on weekends.

“On average, over 20 customers order hot ‘teh o’ or iced ‘teh o’ a day. The name of our stall, Warung Teh ‘O’ 50 Sen, is another pulling factor, with customers willing to come here and try our dishes. Alhamdullilah, business is good. Insya-Allah, my husband and I will continue to sell ‘teh o’ at 50sen a cup,” she said.

Yusnira said although they too have had to deal with the rise in prices of goods, they will continue to sell tea at the same price as they intend to continue giving back to charity.- Bernama
