QuickCheck: Are senior citizens able to claim RM500 in cash from a bank?
RECENTLY, messages have been going around social media and messaging apps claiming that those above 60 years old can go to a local bank to claim RM500 in cash.
Is it true that senior citizens can claim the money simply by presenting their MyKad at Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branches nationwide?
According to Biar Betul, the fake news is believed to be linked to the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) given out by the government.
It said that BSN is one of the avenues for beneficiaries to collect their STR, but this only applies to those who do not have bank accounts.
Biar Betul added that Rahmah Cash Aid is only given out if an individual is eligible.
“To avoid confusion, the public is advised to visit the official MySTR website or alternatively visit Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) offices for more information,” it said.
