Three Malaysian NGO leaders listed on FBI’s Terrorist Screening Centre, barred from Op Ihsan

PETALING JAYA: Three people from separate Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Malaysia have been listed on the United States’ Terrorist Screening Centre (TSC) by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), according to a leaked letter from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

In the letter, which was leaked on social media, the ministry instructed that the three men be no longer involved with Op Ihsan, which oversees the delivery of humanitarian aid from Malaysia to the people of Palestine in Gaza.

Ops Ihsan secretariat chairman Jismi Johari confirmed receiving the letter dated Feb 15, in which the ministry notified him of the three being listed on the TSC.

“It’s a little bit sad and irresponsible to leak the letter online because it was addressed to me.

“It also causes a misconception on the three individuals and invades their privacy,” he said when contacted.

The Op Ihsan secretariat will be holding a meeting to discuss their next course of action soon, he added.

Due to the leaked letter, he said Op Ihsan intends for all the secretariat members to sign a non-disclosure agreement on this matter to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Jismi also said the three individuals were not very involved in Op Ihsan operations, but they were still getting confirmation on the extent of their involvement.

Following this, he advised all activists and NGOs to be careful when dealing with foreign individuals and organisations.
