Victim fell asleep in car without opening windows, say Ipoh cops

IPOH: The woman found dead inside a car parked at the parking lot of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital on Tuesday was sleeping in the backseat without opening the car windows, say police.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the woman was taking care of her ill father who was warded at the hospital.

“She had come to the car to rest at the backseat without winding down the windows,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 21).

He said the case has been classified as sudden death, while waiting for a postmortem report.

“Police had received a call from the hospital’s security guard on Tuesday evening stating that he believed a woman was unconscious, and had probably died inside the car.

“With the help of firefighters, the car doors were opened, and checks by medical officers confirmed that the woman died,” he added.

On Tuesday, Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre Bakri Manaf said a distress call was made at 6.07pm, stating that a woman in her 20s was found dead inside a car parked at the parking lot of the hospital.

He said the car was parked in front of the hospital’s specialist clinics car park.

ACP Yahaya advised the public not to have the habit of sleeping in the car, because if the car engine was switched off, the air conditioning system would not function, and lack of oxygen can cause sudden death.
