Nurul Izzah appointed chairman of think tank
PETALING JAYA: Nurul Izzah Anwar has been appointed as the new chairman of non-partisan think tank Social & Economic Research Initiative (Seri).
In a statement Friday (March 8), the think tank said it was delighted to announce the former Permatang Pauh MP’s appointment and said she brings a wealth of experience and expertise in social development.
“Nurul Izzah has been an advocated for women’s empowerment and gender equality throughout her career. Her track record and passion in tackling social justice issues aligns with Seri’s mission,” the think tank said.
Seri added that Nurul Izzah would strengthen its commitment to continuous prioritisation of inequality and social issues.
“She will work closely with Seri’s team in conjunction with our newly elected board of advisers comprising Dr Jasmine Begum, Chong Kai Wooi and Prof Sanjeev Kishna,” the statement read.
Seri also said Nurul Izzah’s appointment was part of a wider organisational change that also saw Rashaad Ali appointed as managing director, Dr Helmy Haja Mydin as senior policy advisor and Dr Yolanda Augustin.
It said these changes would restructure Seri’s objective of honing in on fiv key developmental issues in Malaysia – youth, women empowerment, healthcare reform, digital economy and social justice.
The think tank kicked off its new restructuring with its Women in the Workforce forum in conjunction with International Women’s Day on Friday.
“We look forward to the positive impact that Nurul Izzah will undoubtedly have and are confident her insights and leadership will contribute greatly to our efforts,” it said.
Seri is a non-partisan think tank dedicated to the promotion of evidence-based policies that address issues of inequality, particularly at the intersection of technology and society.
