Umno Youth wants ‘stronger’ apology from KK Mart, warns of ‘drastic’ action
PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has demanded banners at all 881 of KK Super Mart’s outlets nationwide apologising over the controversial socks issue.
Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh (pic) said they will resort to more “drastic” action if such an apology is not forthcoming at all KK Mart outlets or from its vendor within the next two days.
“We will not brook any nonsense on this matter and will teach them a lesson on this unacceptable and indecent behaviour,” said Akmal after making a police report against KK Super Mart with Jasin Umno division members on Saturday (March 16) night.
He added that the convenience store chain should be investigated over the issue and has told Umno Youth members nationwide to lodge police reports over the incident.
The convenience store chain had caused a furore when one of its stores had socks with the words “Allah” on it for sale on its shelves.
Earlier on Saturday, KK Super Mart founder Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai said he publicly aplogised to all Malaysians, especially those of the Muslim faith, over the incident.
“The company does not have any intention to disrupt public harmony. As such I humbly apologise to all Malaysians, especially those from the Muslim faith,” he said.
He said an inspection of its 800 branches nationwide found that only three outlets carried the socks and 14 pairs had the word on them.
The vendor involved has since made a public apology, saying the goods were sold on a consignment basis and the company did not have any intention of disrupting public harmony.
