Cops seize KK Mart vendor’s controversial socks from Batu Pahat factory

BATU PAHAT: Police have conducted checks at the factory which was the vendor that supplied the socks sold at convenience store chain KK Super Mart.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah said a team of 40 policemen inspected Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd here at 9am on Tuesday (March 19).

“We seized five pairs of socks with the word Allah printed on them. The products were returned by the convenience store in KK Super Mart Bandar Sunway in Selangor.

“The factory’s management gave its full cooperation during our inspection. We found out that it had procured 16 sacks of socks, equivalent to 18,800 pairs, from China before the factory repacked and distributed them to the market.

“We checked every pair of the goods in stock and found that they did not have the word Allah printed on them except for the five pairs that we seized,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added that at present, only three of the convenience store branches in Selangor were found selling the controversial socks; two in Bandar Sunway and another one in Sunway Mentari.

Investigations are ongoing under Section 298A of the Penal Code, Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, he added.

ACP Ismail also reminded the public as well as groups and non-governmental organisations against taking part in flash mobs, gatherings or demonstrations relating to the issue, which could disrupt public harmony.

“We will not hesitate to take actions against those who engage in such activities that are against the law. Let the police carry out the investigation,” he added.

Last Saturday (March 16), KK Super Mart founder Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai made a public apology, saying that the controversial socks were sold on a consignment basis.
