Take action and move on, says PM on socks issue

PUTRAJAYA: While action should be taken over the controversial socks issue, the country should not dwell over the issue, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said leaders and the public should not drag the issue further and should instead focus on other important matters.

“My stance is clear. There are reports, lines were crossed and there must be action taken. But after following the law, we move on.

“There have been reports (made) and action (taken). Don’t insult any religion; what more Islam.

“We shouldn’t continue discussing it as a massive disaster. Take firm action and then move on,” he told reporters when met at Seri Perdana here on Wednesday (March 20).

Anwar also said he accepts views from all sides but reminded leaders not to go overboard.

“Within the free and democratic (Madani) political framework, we can’t follow the walaq (unwavering loyalty) system.

“Parties where walaq exists do not allow freedom of thought – but we do.

“My advice is not to go overboard by following our respective narrow-mindedness.

“Don’t punish excessively. Don’t torment people more than what (can be) accepted,” he added.
