Apology note put up at KK Super Mart outlets

PETALING JAYA: An apology note pertaining to the controversial socks issue has been put up at KK Super Mart outlets nationwide.

Apart from saying sorry for the mistake, the message also lays out the convenience store chain’s next course of action in dealing with the matter.

The note is displayed on large electronic signboards or on the screens of the cash register machines in the shops.

Written in the national language, it read: “KK Super Mart would like to apologise to the Muslim community for the Miranosock brand’s socks bearing the word ‘Allah’. The company has taken immediate and decisive action by terminating the supplier, Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd, and is taking legal action against them.

“All products from this company are no longer available at the KK Super Mart stores throughout Malaysia. Harmony in a multi-religious and multi-ethnic community is our objective. We regret the issue that occurred and sincerely apologise.”

The apology note has been spotted at the chain’s outlets since Monday.

Last Saturday night, Umno Youth demanded banners at all 881 outlets of KK Super Mart apologising over the issue.

Earlier the same day, the company’s founder, Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai, and its management team made a public apology to all Malaysians, especially those of the Muslim faith, saying that it had no intention to disrupt public harmony.
