Company has come forward about RM500,000 in parking lot, says S’gor top cop
KUALA LUMPUR: A company has come forward to claim the suitcase filled with over RM500,000 in cash found at a shopping mall’s parking lot, says Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.
He said that the company had lodged a police report in Shah Alam on the matter and added that while the company director had been summoned, he failed to show up at the Damansara police station.
“He is required to go to the police station to provide proof of ownership (of the cash) and to give his statement pertaining to the investigation.
“However, the director did not show up at the police station citing various reasons such as having meetings and illness,” he told a press conference on Saturday (March 23).
Comm Hussein said so far, police have not managed to determine who the money belongs to.
“We hope the company director will give his cooperation as soon as possible,” he said and added that the duration of the investigation depends on the proof submitted by the company.
“We will not rush it as we will conduct a thorough investigation,” he added.
On Wednesday (March 20), a suitcase containing over RM500,000 in RM10, RM50 and RM100 bank notes was found at a shopping centre in Damansara and handed over to the police.
Comm Hussein had said that the suitcase was discovered at a shopping mall by a security guard.
The pink and white luggage was without a lock when it was found.
Comm Hussein said that following the discovery, the police were notified and an inquiry paper had been opened.
“While we believe the money to be authentic bills, we will confirm it with Bank Negara.
“There were no closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) facing the area of where the bag was found,” he said.
“However, there were CCTVs facing the entrance and the car park exit. We are inspecting those,” added Comm Hussein.
Comm Hussein had also urged anyone who has lost this huge amount of money to be present at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters or call the police at 03-7966 2222.
