Chong Wei stranded in Paris, says he misses son … and nasi lemak

PETALING JAYA: Former national shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei and his family are stuck in Paris as recent floods in Dubai are causing delays in flights from Europe.

Lee, his wife Wong Mew Choo and their two sons, Terence and Kingston, travelled to Paris last weekend to participate in the Paris 100 Sino-French Badminton Charity Gala, as well as to celebrate Kingston’s 11th birthday.

In an IG story shared on Lee’s Instagram account, he noted that he and his family are stuck in Paris due to the floods in Dubai International Airport, which is believed to be a transit for the Lees to return home.

“I miss nasi lemak,” the former World 1 badminton player wrote in the IG story on Friday (April 19) night.

In two other IG stories posted on Saturday afternoon, Lee says he and Wong miss their youngest child, Anson, who is in Malaysia.

“Anson boy, you are a brave boy, Papa Mama miss you d (sic),” the Olympic silver medallist added.

On Friday, Lee was joined by other badminton legends – China’s Lin Dan, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat and Denmark’s Peter Gade at the Paris 100 Sino-French Badminton Charity Gala at the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris, as part of the 100-day countdown to the Paris Olympic Games.

Media reports said that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) witnessed its heaviest rainfall from late Monday through Tuesday night, surpassing anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.

This led to roads in the country flooded and jamming Dubai’s international airport.

The airport, one of the world’s busiest and a hub for travel around the Middle East, is still struggling to clear a backlog of flights three days after the storm.
