Several police reports lodged over casino licence article, says Fahmi

HULU SELANGOR: Several police reports have been lodged over articles by Bloomberg claiming that several parties are in talks with the government about opening a casino in Forest City, Johor, said Fahmi Fadzil.

“I haven’t received detailed information, but we have a Cabinet meeting soon and maybe after that.

“I was made to understand that several police reports were lodged. I have not seen the reports, maybe after the Cabinet meeting,” the Communications Minister said during a press conference at a media centre in Kuala Kubu Baharu on Monday (April 29).

On April 26, Berjaya Corp Bhd (BCorp) lodged police reports over the articles claiming that its founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan is in talks regarding a casino licence in Forest City, Johor.

BCorp urged the police to determine the identity of the unnamed source quoted in the Bloomberg report.

On April 25, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dismissed the reports as a “lie” and said there were no plans to issue the country’s second casino licence to Forest City.

Genting Malaysia Bhd had said neither the company nor its deputy chairman and chief executive Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay were involved in such talks.
