Israeli ‘spy’ case: Discussions on 10 held under Sosma will be carried out this week, says KL police chief
KUALA LUMPUR: The investigation paper involving 10 individuals detained in connection with Israeli Shalom Avitan will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers this week.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a discussion would also be held this week to determine the next course of action to be taken against the suspects.
“As I mentioned before, all suspects are currently behind held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma).
“The detention of seven local suspects will end on May 14, while it will end on May 15 for the three foreigners.
“We expect to have a meeting on the next course of action this week,” he said at the Kuala Lumpur police Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration on Tuesday (April 30).
Comm Rusdi said any decision on the suspects will depend on the investigation and the discussion with relevant parties, especially the AGC.
“As per procedure, a decision will be made a week before the end of the detention on whether to prosecute, release, or deport (the foreign suspects),” he said.
It was previously reported that the decision on whether the 10 individuals detained in connection with Israeli Shalom Avitan would be prosecuted or otherwise would be known in May.
Comm Rusdi had said the decision would depend on the investigation into the 10 suspects, including three foreigners.
It was reported that a total of 18 people were detained in connection with the Israeli.
Three of them – Avitan and a local married couple – have since been charged, while five others have been released.
Ten individuals have been held under Sosma, and investigations are being conducted under Section 130v(1) of the Penal Code (organised crime).
