Civil servants to get over 13% pay hike, says Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Civil servants will take home a minimum overall monthly income of RM2,000 under the revamped Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Currently, the minimum overall income of civil servants is RM1,765. A new criteria and measurement will be introduced; the minumum overall income including allowances will be RM2,000,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that civil servants would receive a pay hike of over 13%.

Anwar said this when launching the national level Labour Day celebrations here on Wednesday (May 1).

He added that the new salary scheme for civil servants would take effect in December of this year, amidst cheers from civil servants attending the celebrations.

“The scheme was initially planned for implementation in January next year but will be implemented for their December salary,” he said.

He said this was among the proposals under the SPPA which will be unveiled later this year.

“The salary increment of civil servants is usually 13%. When we begin the SPPA next year, the salary increment will be higher than 13%,” he said.

Anwar added that the SPPA is the most comprehensive and largest in terms of financial implication for the government.

He said that the government will have to allocate RM10bil for the implementation of the SPPA next year.
