KL Monorail back in full service as of 5pm, May 8

PETALING JAYA: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd’s (Rapid Rail) monorail services resumed full operations by 5pm Wednesday, says the service provider.

“Cleaning and repair works were successfully carried out by Rapid Rail and the local authorities at 5.55am (Wednesday, May 8).

“Operators and structural engineers also completed several thorough and detailed inspections based on fixed safety standards.

“This is to ensure that the rail tracks are stable and safe for operations,” Rapid Rail said in a statement.

On Tuesday (May 7), four monorail stations – Bukit Nanas, Raja Chulan, Bukit Bintang and Imbi – were temporarily closed for cleaning and repair works after an uprooted tree smashed onto the track.

The disruption to the service happened at about 2pm Tuesday (May 7) when a thunderstorm caused a tree on Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur near the Concorde Hotel to smash into the KL Monorail track.

A total of 17 vehicles were damaged in the incident which resulted in the death of a 47-year-old man and injuries to two others.

Meanwhile, Rapid Rail said the alternative train and feeder bus services would end following the resumption of the monorail services.

The company said the monorail service would resume its normal operations with a train frequency every seven minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during off-peak times.
