GRS leader urges Sabah Umno to protect state’s rights in revenue dispute

KOTA KINABALU: A Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leader wants Sabah Umno to get the Federal Government to withdraw its appeal against the leave granted by the High Court to Sabah Law Society (SLS) for the judicial review on the state’s 40% revenue rights.

Usno president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said that leaders from Umno should protect the state rights under the Constitution by getting the federal government to withdraw its appeal of the leave granted to SLS.

Pandikar said this in a statement on Thursday (May 23), in response to Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin’s call for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his cabinet to resign following the alleged “blunder” by the state appointed lawyer Tengku Datuk Fuad Ahmad to stop SLS in getting leave at the Court of Appeals on May 16.

“I understand Bung Moktar’s feelings of disappointment,” he said.

For the sake of Sabah, Pandikar urged Bung Moktar to publicly call Umno leaders in the federal Cabinet to advise the Prime Minister to withdraw the government’s appeal against the High Court’s decision, which allowed SLS to start the Judicial Review process.

He said Bung should appeal to the Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman and the Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi, as the leaders of Umno, to help Sabah protect its Constitutional rights instead of calling for Hajiji’s resignation.
