Cher Honors ‘Dear Friend’ Cyndi Lauper at Hand & Footprint Ceremony
Cher is celebrating her longtime friend Cyndi Lauper!
The 70-year-old “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” singer was honored with a Hand and Footprint Ceremony on Tuesday (June 4) at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.
During the ceremony, Cher, 78, took to the podium to give a moving speech to her “dear friend.”
“She’s a wonderful wonderful, crazy, crazy person,” Cher said, according to The Standard. “I’m a good singer, I’m a pretty good singer, Cyndi is a great singer, she’s a genius singer, she’s a fabulous person and she’s talented.”
Cher then went on to recall the first time she performed her mega-hit “If I Could Turn Back Time” with Cyndi at the VH1 Divas in 2002.
“I’m singing it and I’m really feeling good about myself, and she comes out and blows me away. And we’ve been friends ever since,” Cher said, adding, “I love her.”
Bebe Rexha was also in attendance at the ceremony where she raved about Cyndi, saying, “Her legacy as an artist, singer, songwriter, actress and activist will now forever be enshrined in Hollywood history.”
“To say that Cyndi is someone I have idolized my entire life is an understatement,” Bebe, 34, continued. “I remember growing up as a little girl in New York City and I’d be dancing around the house to one of my mothers favorite artists, who was Cyndi, and she quickly became one of my favorite artists.”
“Not only was I drawn to her infectious melodies and her edgy style, but it was most importantly her nature to be her true authentic self,” Bebe added. “She helped to empower me not only as an artist, but most importantly as a woman. And now to be able to call her a friend is so awesome.”
Earlier this week, Cyndi announced her farewell tour. Get all the details here!
