Disabled ehailing driver gives statement on alleged assault to Bukit Aman

KUALA LUMPUR: The disabled ehailing driver who claims he was assaulted by a member of a VIP’s security detail has been called up to Bukit Aman to have his statement recorded.

Ong Ing Keong, 46, arrived together with Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) representatives Latheefa Koya and N. Surendran at 10.40am on Wednesday (June 5).

They were there to assist in the investigation as instructed by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who said all those involved in the incident should come forward.

The IGP had said police were conducting a thorough investigation and the police officer allegedly involved would also be called in.

Previously, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said they received a report from the disabled driver at 1pm on May 28.

The victim claimed to have been assaulted by a member of a VIP’s security escort while waiting for a customer at the St Regis Hotel here.

Comm Rusdi said the victim then lodged a second police report at 9.59pm the same day, claiming the matter had been resolved amicably and he did not want to prolong the case.

However, the victim then claimed that he was offered RM800 to settle the matter.
