Peabody Award Win Brings Mel Brooks to PEGOT Status – Only the 4th Person to Achieve It!
You’ve heard of the EGOT, but have you heard of the PEGOT?
Legendary filmmaker and comedian Mel Brooks just became the fourth person in history to win a Peabody, an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.
Mel was presented his Peabody for Career Achievement by Billy Crystal at the 2024 Peabody Awards ceremony on Sunday (June 9) in Los Angeles.
The other four PEGOT winners are Barbra Streisand, Rita Moreno, and Mike Nichols.
He joked during his speech, “When they said, ‘You’ve won a Peabody Award,’ I said, ‘Oh, no sh-t.’ I thought maybe it was for being the best-looking guy in show business. I had no idea what this award — it’s mostly for electronics. If you’re good at electronics, you can win one of these.”
More attendees at the ceremony included Quinta Brunson, who received the Trailblazer Award, as well as Rose Byrne, Shailene Woodley, Kumail Nanjiani, Matt Bomer, Jelani Alladin, Darren Criss, and Taika Waititi. See more photos in the gallery!
