Matt Smith Praised for Gently Correcting Interviewer Who Misgendered His ‘House of the Dragon’ Co-Star Emma D’Arcy

Fans are singing their praises for Matt Smith following a recent interview.

On Monday (June 10), the 41-year-old actor and his House of the Dragons co-stars attended the season two premiere of their HBO series in London, England.

While on the red carpet, Matt was interviewed by a Sue Perkins, host of Sky’s official fan show House of the Dragon: War Room, who accidentally misgendered his co-star Emma D’Arcy.

During the interview, Sue told Matt that “she gave all the credit” for the final scene of season one, referring to Emma, 31, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.

While responding to SueMatt used Emma‘s correct pronouns while praising his co-star.

“I can’t take the credit, [but] I have to say, aren’t they brilliant?” Matt responded. “They are absolutely brilliant and you’re in for a real treat with Emma this year, I think Emma’s put in… a really great performance.”

Following the interview, Matt is being praised on social media for using the they/them pronouns while talking about Emma.

“And this how it’s done, my friends. Matt Smith is an absolute TREASURE of a human being,” one fan tweeted.

Another tweeted, “The huge emphasis he uses on they, Matt and the rest of the cast of been so lovely and respectful towards Emma, its quite great to see.”

“Can Matt get any more awesome?” a third fan wrote. “I love that he stands up for Emma and corrects the interviewer on their pronouns.”
