Selangor Health Dept investigating death of infant at Hospital Tanjong Karang

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Health Department is investigating the death of an 11-month-old baby at Hospital Tanjong Karang.

Selangor Health director Dr Ummi Kalthom Shamsudin said that the incident, which had gone viral on social media, had started when the infant displayed symptoms of fever and vomiting and was treated at the hospital on June 7 and 9.

“Both times, medical examinations and treatments were administered by the attending physicians and the patient was discharged on the same day.

“However, the child was found unconscious at home on June 11, 2024, and was rushed back to Hospital Tanjong Karang. Despite resuscitation efforts, the infant could not be saved.

“An autopsy has been conducted to determine the cause of death,” she said in a statement on Thursday (June 13).

Dr Ummi Kalthom said further investigations were ongoing in accordance with the existing guidelines of the Health Ministry while a meeting was being arranged with the baby’s family to discuss the case further.

“We would also like to offer our deepest condolences to the family,” she said.
