Terrified pet monkey attacks student in Johor school

GELANG PATAH: A pet monkey suddenly turned aggressive and felt threatened by the presence of students around him.

The primate which was no stranger to the students of SMK Taman Nusajaya in Taman Nusantara, Gelang Patah was not of its usual self on Friday (July 26).

“The usually tame monkey suddenly attacked one of the students on his stomach,” Iskandar Puteri fire station operations commander Ishak Noh said in a statement.

He said prior to the attack, the secondary school students were feeding the animal.

“We believed that the monkey was terrified seeing so many children trying to feed him,” added Ishak.

He said the Iskandar Puteri fire station received a call on the incident at 12.10pm and seven firemen with one Fire Rapid Tender (FRT) vehicle arrived at 12.18pm.

“After attacking the 13-year-old boy, the monkey tried to escape by climbing the roof of the school building and the staircase railing,” said Noh.

He said firemen managed to apprehend the primate using a monkey trap and the monkey was handed over to the Wildlife Department.

“The victim who suffered bruises on his belly was sent to the nearby clinic by his parents for treatment,” said Noh, adding the operation ended at 12.35pm.
