PETALING JAYA: Funds from alcohol and gambling have been funnelled to vernacular schools and Chinese schools since Barisan Nasional was in charge in the past, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic).

“This has been practised by Barisan Nasional in the past. Money from alcohol and gambling companies are not to be used for mosques and the like so the money was given to the temples and vernacular schools.

“This is the practice that we are continuing in this current government. If it was not right, why was it not stopped when they (Perikatan Nasional) were the government,” the Umno vice-president said during a speech after a meeting with the Gombak Umno division on Sunday (July 28).

Controversy erupted when PAS took issue with Housing and Local Government Deputy Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu after she was seen on stage with several others behind a RM3mil mock cheque bearing the logo of the brewery, alleged it was “normalising” alcohol consumption.
