Nicky Doll Files Lawsuit Against Laurence Fox Over His Olympics Opening Ceremony Comments
Nicky Doll is suing actor and political activist Laurence Fox!
The Drag Race France host, whose real name is Karl Sanchez, has filed a defamation suit against Laurence over his comments about the drag queens who took part in the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony.
“No point in getting wound up when the child f–kers want to wind you up. Just laugh at the deviant little pedos. Eternity is a b–ch,” Laurence wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
On Friday (August 2), just one week after the Opening Ceremony, Nicky shared a statement on X along with another statement from a lawyer, writing, “I will never again allow myself and other queer people to be defamed and demonized. If responding with love doesn’t work for some, then responding with justice should work. See you in court.”
The statement from the lawyer, Anne Sophie-Laguens, says Nicky and other performers have received an “unprecedented wave of hatred,” which has gone “far beyond artistic criticism,” and includes death threats. Read the full lawyer’s statement in English below…
Earlier this year, Laurence Fox was ordered to pay $180,000 in damages from a libel case filed against him by another drag performer, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK‘s Crystal, and Stonewall trustee Simon Blake after he made similar comments towards them a few years ago.
Following the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on July 26, 2024, the artists who performed on the Debilly footbridge suffered an unprecedented wave of hatred, and faced the trivialization of insults due to sexual orientation or gender identity.
Stop Homophobia’s lawyers have thus received numerous reports relating to incitement to hatred, insults, online harassment, threats and defamation.
The firm was notified by Mr. Karl Sanchez, known as Nicky Doll, of a defamation complaint filed against Mr. Laurence Fox and other users of the social network X (Twitter).
Nicky Doll, who has been receiving insults and hate messages for years, has suffered an unprecedented wave of animosity and ill will since her performance on the “Festivity” table of the ceremony, going as far as death threats.
These messages go far beyond artistic criticism, and some convey odious and defamatory amalgams, equating drag performances and pedophilia.
These comparisons are serious and unacceptable.
It is in this sense that justice has been taken, and that any publication or message assimilating Nicky Doll’s performance to encouragement of pedophilic practices will be reported.
