Tourism Ministry pulls out all stops to attract Chinese tourists

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia remains committed to ensuring the country is a top destination for Chinese tourists, says the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.

Its minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (pic) said in line with this, the ministry aims to welcome five million Chinese tourists to Malaysia this year.

He described it as a target that reflects the growing appeal of Malaysia as a destination for Chinese travelers.

Tiong said last year, Malaysia welcomed a total of 1.47 million Chinese tourists and RM8.8bil in tourism receipts.

“This achievement is a result of strategic partnerships, increased flight connectivity, and joint promotional efforts with industry players.

“We are committed to further enhancing these efforts, ensuring that Malaysia remains a top destination for Chinese tourists,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Photo Exhibition, which was jointly organised by the Star Media Group (SMG) and Sin Chew Daily at Mid Valley Megamall here on Monday (Aug 5).

Tiong’s speech was read by Tourism Malaysia director-general Manoharan Periasamy.

Tiong also congratulated SMG and Sin Chew Daily on the photo exhibition, which showcased pivotal moments that have shaped the Malaysia-China bilateral relationship over the past five decades.

“The photographs on display have vividly captured the essence of our shared history, showcasing the cultural, economic and diplomatic exchanges that have enriched both our nations.

“This remarkable relationship has yielded tangible achievements across various sectors, including tourism, trade and cultural exchange,” he said.

Tiong said that the event highlighted the transformative power of the media in shaping public perception and driving positive change.

He added that bilateral relations between both Malaysia and China have continuously improved since diplomatic ties were established in 1974.

He said it brought mutually beneficial growth for the people and provided an impetus for development and stability.

“Over the past two years, our partnership has been instrumental in fostering cooperation and exchanging valuable ideas that enrich both our tourism and cultural landscapes.

“Together, we have strengthened bilateral ties and fostered deeper cultural understanding and friendship between our peoples,” Tiong added.

He said the Malaysia-China relationship is poised for greater achievements, stressing commitment towards fostering deeper bilateral ties, promoting cultural exchanges, and enhancing economic collaborations.

“Together, let us continue to build on this foundation of friendship and cooperation, ensuring the Malaysia-China relationship continues to flourish for generations to come,” he said.
