Potato Chip Bag Wallet, Scotch Tape Bracelet: Balenciaga’s Most Ridiculous Accessories

Potato Chip Bag Wallet, Scotch Tape Bracelet: Balenciaga’s Most Ridiculous Accessories

A new fashion season seems to be another chance for Spanish luxury brand Balenciaga to get the world talking.

At this point, this writer thinks the creative brains behind the fashion house are just kicking back with a bag of chips and laughing at our responses.

Speaking of chips, scroll down to check out their latest… wallet that has since gone viral.

Here are our personal takes on which items raised everyone’s eyebrows.

Scotch Tape Bracelet

Is it just us or did Balenciaga try to pass off a roll of Scotch tape as high fashion earlier this year?

Part of their Fall/Winter 2024 collection, this item from their fine jewellery collection retails for… S$5.1K!

Does someone care to share with us how many rolls of Scotch tape they can buy with that amount of money?

Trash Bag

For their Fall 2022 collection, the brand released what we would call a glorified garbage bag.

Creative director Demna Gvasalia poo-pooed the idea of it “just being a trash bag” and boasted that it is made of calfskin leather.

The bag came in a multitude of colours and retailed for S$3.8K when it was launched.

Well, we think everyone at home better know which is the real garbage bag when taking out the trash.

Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote aka “That IKEA Bag”

Balenciaga really made us sit up in 2017. Their Arena extra-large shopper tote bag that retailed for S$2.7K looked suspiciously like Ikea’s Frakta carrier bag

Interestingly, this wasn’t a collaboration, and we wonder if IKEA was approached.

The similarity wasn’t lost on the furniture company who responded with a snarky advertisement on how to identify their iconic carrier bag.

“Price tag. Only S$1”.

We are not going to lie… We see Ikea in a different light now.

Crocs Heels & Platforms

No, this writer refuses to jump on the Crocs bandwagon and personally, adding a heel sure doesn’t add to the allure.

Christened the “Madame” and retailing for S$810 in 2021, a three-inch heel is stuck to the bottom and looks like its trying to hold up the imbalanced clog.

This isn’t the first time Crocs and Balenciaga have collaborated.

Back in early 2018, they featured a chunky platform along with a variety of jibbits, retailing for S$850.

According to the brand, they sold out before being released.

Hands up if you scored a pair. No one will judge, right?

Towel Skirt

Earlier this year, Balenciaga debuted one of their most questionable (aren’t they all?) items to date.

The Towel Skirt.

So… now they want us to step out of the showers and immediately onto the streets?

Oh, wait, it is listed as dry clean only.

Waving off talk that it was just your regular bath towel, the fashion brand included two buttons and an adjustable belt to the piece.

Potato Chip Bag Wallet

It seems Balenciaga’s first Potato Chip Bag Clutch back in 2022 was such a hit that they had to rehash and release a wallet version where you can fold it into a rectangle.

The S$2.2K wallet even comes with wrinkled details and even ‘foil’ corners. One netizen commented: “Very thoughtful of Balenciaga as now we won’t need to worry about pickpockets.”

Though the wallet won’t hold your stash of snacks, we won’t mind opening a bag of chips and instead finding some cash.
