Selangor flash floods: 70 houses affected in Shah Alam, Kampung Melayu Subang inundated
PETALING JAYA: About 70 houses were affected by flash floods in Paya Jaras, Shah Alam, says the Petaling Civil Defence Force.
It added that a relief centre was also being set up in Dewan Kenanga.
“The flash floods were due to heavy rain pour and poor irrigation affecting houses located in lower elevations,” it said in a statement on Facebook.
Meanwhile, videos showing flash floods in Kampung Melayu Subang in Selangor have been making rounds since evening due to the heavy downpour in the area.
Checks on social media showed that the water reached just below the knee level in some areas.
Some users in the Facebook group “Kampung Melayu Subang” said that the water level increased, flooding several roads in the area.
Residents also reported that water supplies were affected by the heavy rain that caused the floods.
“Kampung Melayu Subang was hit by floods, even worse, there’s no water supply,” said user Paman Radzi Shapiei in the group about two hours ago.
He also called for other residents to lodge a complaint to the water authorities for any supply issues.
Meanwhile, a resident of a condominium nearby known as Dayana, 33 said that her building management has shut down the passenger lifts as the water level was worrying this evening.
“Only one emergency lift was usable at the moment,” she said.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail when contacted said that the water level reached up to a metre when officers arrived for a special flood operation at the affected area at about 5pm on Thursday (Oct 3).
However, there was no victim involved in the operation in Jalan Tembusu, Kampung Melayu Subang, he added.
According to the Public Info Banjir’s website, the water level at Sungai Damansara in Kampung Melayu Subang was at the alert level.
Meanwhile, Sungai Kuang in Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang at Gombak and Sungai Bernam and Sungai Selisek at Hulu Selangor were recorded to be at the danger level.
