202 ‘sick’ projects involving 19 ministries detected, says AG’s report

PETALING JAYA: A total of 202 projects are behind schedule (sick) involving 19 ministries, the Auditor-General’s Report Series 3 reveals.

These projects are part of the 8,279 development projects under Rolling Plan (RP) 3 of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12) involving 26 ministries, as of December 2023.

Out of a total of 8,279 RP3 development projects of the RMK12, as many as 2,442 projects are in the post-implementation stage; 3,404 projects in the implementation stage, 2,323 projects are still in the pre-implementation stage; while 16 projects cancelled and 94 projects is under observation.

Of the 3,404 projects in the implementation stage, a total of 2,305 projects are on schedule; 549 projects ahead of schedule; 202 projects are behind schedule (sick), 107 projects are behind schedule; while another 241 projects have no progress status.

The RMK12 is slated for five years beginning 2021 until 2025. It was presented in Parliament on Sept 27, 2021 and approved Oct 1, 2021.

Parliament approved the RMK12 development ceiling estimate amounting to RM400bil to finance new development and continuation projects for a period of five years.

However, during the Half Term Review of RMK12 in 2023, the expenditure ceiling was increased with an of RM15bil, bringing the total allocation to RM415bil.

The report also said that the RMK12 was re-aligned with Economy Madani’s vision, which aims to empower and stimulate the national economy for a period of 10 years.
