Vehicles in viral video given summonses for parking too close to bus stop, Ipoh cops say

IPOH: Owners of vehicles parked in front of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun received traffic summonses in a viral video for violating parking rules, say Ipoh police.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said while police had said that summonses would not be issued for vehicles parked on both sides of Jalan Ashman Shah here, the vehicles in the viral video showed the vehicles parked about 9m from a bus stop.

“Investigations revealed that the video was recorded on Nov 19 at 9.45am by a passerby.

“We also found that the summonses issued were for vehicle owners who violated Rule 12(3) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 for parking a vehicle 9m (30ft) from a bus stop,” he said in a statement issued Thursday. (Nov 21)

ACP Abang Zainal had said in October that police would not issue summonses on the said road as long as traffic is not obstructed.

However, action would be taken on vehicles parked in front of bus stops on Jalan Raja Ashman Shah, on the roundabout, or if they double-park there.

He advised motorists to cooperate with the police and adhere to the rules and regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.
