Chef Caught Dipping Broom Into Wok And Then Using It To Scrub Floor

We just lost our appetite.

When one says a restaurant is so clean that you can eat off the floor, we doubt they mean this right?

In a clip posted to Instagram by @guangdonghkmacao, a netizen recorded a chef in Guangdong cleaning his kitchen by putting a broom into a wok of hot water and then using it to scrub the floor.

Yikes! How did the person recording the video finish his meal after seeing that?

The video soon went viral and the restaurant came out to explain that the broom used was only used for cleaning pots and scrubbing oil off the gas pipeline.

Umm… Did our eyes betray us? It is quite obvious the chef bent over to give the floor a good scrub, right?

Like us, many netizens were not entirely convinced by the restaurant’s excuse and expressed disgust.

One Singaporean said: “If this was in Singapore, the shop would have been closed down.”

However, it seems a number of netizens felt there wasn’t anything wrong with the chef’s actions, going as far as to say this was a common practice in the kitchens of Chinese restaurants.

“He’s using boiling water. It should be clean right?” read one comment while another doubled down and refused to believe he would use the same wok for cooking.

Maybe to avoid future misunderstandings, would it have been better to not let diners see the cleanup?

How does one still continue the meal after seeing this?
We had to check that it was a wok he was dipping from.
