Lisa of K-pop girl group Blackpink has been credited with sparking a tourism boom in her home country of Thailand after starring in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus.
The Emmy-winning drama, which premiered on February 16, was filmed almost entirely in Thailand.
Lisa, 27, who plays resort employee named Mook, has generated immense online buzz due to her participation in the series.
Since the release of the show’s trailer, Thailand has gained significant attention as a travel destination.
Online travel company Expedia reported a surge in flight searches for Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Koh Samui, the show’s filming locations, increasing 65 per cent, 45 per cent, and 30 per cent, respectively.
Hotels.com also saw a 40 per cent increase in accommodation searches for Koh Samui, particularly for Four Seasons Resort and Anantara Bophut, two of several hotels used to create the series’ fictional White Lotus Resort. The others were Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas and Rosewood Phuket.
The Four Seasons was the primary filming location and according to HBO, you can expect to see plenty of scenes taking place in the resort’s pool villas, restaurants, and outdoor landscapes.
