Zii Jia books spot in Orleans Masters second round
PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia overcame a strong challenge from Taiwan’s Chi Yu-jen to book his spot in the Orleans Masters second round.
World No. 7 Zii Jia, who was making his first competitive appearance this year after recovering from an ankle injury, needed to come from behind to claim a 17-21, 21-17, 21-17 win over world No. 29 Yu-jen at the Palais des Sports in France on Wednesday (March 5).
The independent player is the top seed in the tournament and will play either India’s K. Srikanth or Japan’s Koo Takahashi next for a place in the last eight.
Zii Jia is the last Malaysian representative left in the singles in the competition after qualifier Cheam June Wei went down 20-22, 15-21 to another Taiwanese Lin Chun-yi.
